At Worthy Parts we have a policy of being strongly committed to our community. So, it was great to see one of our staff members, Aidan Luke, contributing to the Rotary Club of Boulder On-line Radio Auction. (August 3 and 4)
The background to his donation goes back to Aidan’s experience as a parent when his young boy needed extensive treatment in Perth for a sustained time. This meant stays at Ronald McDonald House and disruption to the family.
While in Perth balancing family obligations and work commitments, somehow, Aidan found time to mix his love of surfing and using his hands to make surfboards. It kept his mind busy and helped him relax during a stressful time.
No longer needing treatment in Perth the family moved back to Kalgoorlie Boulder to resume “normal” family life we take for granted.
The families stay in Perth had been supported by The Perth Children`s Hospital Goldfields Family Assistance Trust Fund, which is managed by the Rotary Club of Boulder and is the only beneficiary of Give Me 5 For Kids. Aidan felt the need to give back to the charity and the on-line auction was the perfect way to do it.
By donating a surfboard he had made with friend Greg Wallace of Connected By*, he thought that maybe a few hundred dollars could be raised to add to the total. Little did he know that eventually it would be sold for $9,000. It turned out to be the most expensive auction item in a weekend that raised a considerable amount for local charities.
Aidan is hoping that the money raised from the auction will help ease the stress and anxiety for some families that need to deal with long-term medical situations.
The team at Worthy Parts congratulates the Rotary Club of Boulder, radio station Triple M and all those that helped raise such a significant amount for our community.
And to Aidan we say well done.
