Worthy Parts Managing Director Michael Worthington took a trip recently to Burnie, Tasmania. Whilst there he had the pleasure of spending some time with mining industry legend, Dale Elphinstone.
Dale took some time out of his busy schedule to chat with Michael about their products, services and his strong relationship with the global Caterpillar brand and dealer network.
The Elphinstone brand is best known for their underground machines which Dale designed and built some of the first prototypes in his front yard over 40 years ago. The popularity and success of the machines quickly drew the attention of Caterpillar who created a joint venture with Elphinstone in 1995.
Caterpillar exercised their option to buy the entire Elphinstone brand only 5 years later, and continue to manufacture the same underground machines to this day under the CAT brand.
Recently when Caterpillar moved their underground machine manufacturing facility overseas, Dale bought the Elphinstone name back and kept the Tasmanian facility operational with other types of machinery manufacturing which they design.
They still have a strong relationship with the Caterpillar brand, who are the authorised dealers for their products.
We all love hearing a success story, and we appreciate hearing from a successful and humble entrepreneur who continues to support the industry we work in.
